Everything You Need to Know About Eyelash Tinting

Do you want to wake up with effortlessly long, dark eyelashes every morning? Mascara is full of chemicals that cause many people to suffer from eye irritation. Even worse, mascara can run, clump, and start to dry out and flake onto your cheeks during a long day. Maybe you’re wondering how to cut down on your daily beauty routine or look like you were born with perfect lashes. If so, you may have wondered, “what is eyelash tinting?” Semi-permanent beauty treatments may be the answer you’re seeking, so let’s explore all you need to know about eyelash tinting.

What Is Eyelash Tinting?

More people are discovering the beauty and ease of eyelash tinting when a semi-permanent dye is applied to your lashes. This application is best suited for people with light-colored eyelashes or very fine lashes, but anyone can enhance their natural beauty with some darker tint. If you want to make your eyes look especially glam, you could combine lash services with an eyebrow tint or even lash extensions.

To start the process, the technician puts a pad under your eyes to protect your skin and then applies the dye to your lower lashes first, followed by the top. It only takes about 10 minutes for the dye to absorb into the hairs.

Most people choose a blue-black colored tint for their lashes. We use the blue-black tint from Beautiful Brows & Lashes. This color is the darkest shade that looks good on brunettes, but there are some lighter black and brown shades as well. We carry all the tint colors from Beautiful Brows & Lashes so have the ability to custom tint for each guests.

The entire process, from start to finish, takes between 15 to 30 minutes. It may be longer if you combine it with other services like extensions, lifts, or eyebrow tints.

Who Does Eyelash Tinting Services?

Trained and licensed lash stylists/technicians or beauticians are typically the people who apply lash tints to clients. Certification courses typically last a day or two and cover subjects like product knowledge, FDA laws, anatomy, and color theory.

The History of Lash Tinting

Humans have dyed their lashes for hundreds of years. The ancient Egyptians famously used kohl around their eyes, brows, and eyelashes for a dramatic effect. Medieval Europeans and South Asians also mixed oil with black powder to create eye makeup.

Is It Safe?

The dyes used around the eye area are specifically formulated to be extra gentle. Additionally, the lash stylist must undergo thorough training to ensure they are careful with the product since eye health is so important. It should not hurt when it’s applied to your lashes but may feel a little irritating from the fumes.

If you have reactive skin in general, a lash tint may not be for you. Some people find they are allergic to lash dye. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to a hair dye or henna, you may need to avoid lash tints and go for extensions or lifts instead. You could ask the technician to do a patch test if you’re concerned about having a bad reaction.

A sign of an allergy to this product would be puffy, itchy skin around your eyes and persistent redness. At this point, you should seek medical attention.

Today, each state sets its own laws regarding lash tints since the FDA does not yet approve this procedure.

How Long Does Eyelash Tint Last?

Your lash tint should last about a month. The dyes are not permanent, so there will be a slow fading of color over time. Typically, our eyelashes fall out naturally at the rate of one to five lashes per day! This is another reason why eyelash tints don’t last as long as you might think. Then, it takes another four to eight weeks to fully grow another eyelash.

How long your color will last also depends on how well you take care of your lashes. Minimize chlorine exposure, sun, and oily eye makeup to prolong your tint. A lot of sun exposure can also fade your lashes, so wear sunglasses outside.

Many clients combine a lash tint with a lash lift to enhance their results. Lifts last up to eight weeks long. Another option is to combine a lash tint with lash extensions. Every person has a slightly different rate of hair growth, so you have to wait and see how long your results will last.

How Do I Care For My Tinted Lashes?

When you first have your lashes dyed, you need to keep them dry for up to two days to allow the dye to absorb fully. Do not wash your face or put on eye makeup during this time. Later, wash your face with a mild product that will not irritate your eyes if you get soap in them. Ultimately, your dye will last longer if you minimize the amount of contact your lashes have with water.

Keep oils and oil-based cleansers away from your eyelashes to avoid stripping the dye out. Instead, look for cream or gel cleansers that are extra gentle.

A specially formulated eyelash serum may help keep your lashes hydrated and less likely to fall out, thereby extending your tinted look. These typically contain biotin, which encourages hair growth.

Try not to sleep on your face or push your lashes against the pillow too much when you sleep at night. Sleeping in this position will cause even more of your dyed lashes to fall out. Don’t rub your eyes or use sticky strip lashes that may also cause lashes to loosen. The overall goal is to preserve as many hairs as possible.

How To Remove Eyelash Tint

The best way to remove tint is to purchase a professional lash tint remover product specially formulated to bleach out the color from your lashes or skin. Applying oil-based products may also help fade the dye.

Should I Get My Lashes Tinted?

Social media celebrities and fashion models are known for using lash treatments for close-up work. This is so they can look as flawless as possible under HD lenses.

Eyebrows are getting a lot of attention these days, but if you want to create that “natural beauty” look with minimal effort, a lash tint with a lift or extensions will give you an Instagram-ready face.
